Writing Successful Grants: Where to find grants: part 2

In part 2 of the series, Writing Successful Grants, I am providing you with resources for where to find grants. Some are applicable for nonprofits in many sectors and others are for those in the arts & culture space, serving most directly MixMuse clients of artists, nonprofits, and educators. Resources are specific to the Puget Sound region and Washington state for the most part. Others reach beyond to the greater United States via directory search.

Set side time to research the grantors and the Call for Applications. Writing grants cold is ineffectual. Contact program officers and managers to learn more and ask questions. Many cities have an arts commission which have diverse missions, but often one purpose is provide competitive grants/funding for public art. Contact your city! I’ve only included 3 large cities in the Puget Sound region: Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue. Many grantors offer webinars and other means of disseminating information and training. Many applications open quarterly or annual. Considering creating a calendar (biennium calendar in some cases), so you track timing for all grants for which your organization is eligible.

Grant Directories & Subscription Services: Some have limited free access but most are paid services. Many have free newsletters, and I recommend you subscribe to those, like the one with Candid or with GrantStation. Staying current on philanthropic news to some degree can be helpful..
